About this Presentation Memo template
This Presentation Memo Template was built by Magnus Westerberg and offers a modernized version of Jeff Bezos' famous 2004 memo structure which encourages deep thinking and more effective communication by replacing PowerPoint with narrative texts. It is an iterated version of the original memo, designed to work for both digital and hybrid meetings. Sections such as the PR/FAQ are included, which are separate tools from the original Amazon memo but a great addition to the memo structure.
This simple memo format gave birth to billion-dollar ideas like the Kindle, AWS and Amazon Prime.
What is a Presentation Memo?
A Presentation Memo is a digital-only memo format for collaboration among remote teams and in hybrid meetings, which is based on the Amazonian approach to product development. It includes a narrative structure for presenting ideas which forces you to think more clearly. It’s been said that “PowerPoint is easy for the speaker and hard for the audience. Producing a good narrative text is hard for the writer and easy for the reader.”
How to use a Presentation Memo Template
To use the Presentation Memo template, you will need to follow the instructions and steps outlined in the template itself. The sections included in the template are designed to help you develop an effective narrative for your presentation. It includes sections such as:
- Goals and challenges
- Background and data
- Concept
- What to Execute
In addition, you’ll find a section for building a Press Release/FAQ about your product which should be used during the product development process. This forces you to work backward from the dream customer experience so you build a product with the customer in mind right from the start.
